World's first computer mouse sold for crores of rupees
A rare computer mouse, which inspired Steve Jobs to create
Apple's first mouse, has been sold at an auction in New York for a whopping
$178,936. The mouse and coding key set were made by computing legend Douglas
Engelbart, the founder of the controller system, over 55 years ago.
This
rare mouse has three buttons and uses two metal discs to track the cursor's
position, which was later replaced by a ball or optical light. The coding key
set consists of five keys, allowing 31 key press combinations to type commands.
Apple
founder Steve Jobs bought Engelbart's patent for $40,000 after seeing this
invention, and it took off, selling in the billions. In December 2020, the
first prototype of the mouse was auctioned for $34,000, and in March 2022,
another mouse and coding set by Engelbart sold for $46,000.
Over
time, the computer mouse has continued to improve and today it is in its most
advanced form. The sale of this rare mouse at the auction highlights its
historical significance and the impact it had on the development of modern
technology.
